About This Role
A leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a Controls Engineer responsible for the electrical design of mechanical/hydraulic power stamping presses and related automation upgrades. You will own HMI, PLC, and Safety PLC design; hardwire, panel, and field device layouts; risk assessments; installation supervision; and full line commissioning — verifying designs through customer buyoffs and supervising engineers, electricians, and millwrights during press upgrade installations.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical design of mechanical/hydraulic power stamping presses and related automation upgrades
- HMI design — create, modify, and verify HMI programs (GP-Pro on Proface hardware) during customer buyoffs
- PLC design — create, modify, and verify PLC programs (Studio 5000, RSLinx, IAB, MPE720, PCwin, Memosoft, Simatic Step 7) on Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa, Toyopuc, and Siemens hardware
- Safety PLC design — create, modify, and verify Safety PLC programs on Allen-Bradley and Siemens hardware
- Create and modify hardwire, panel, and field device layouts using IAB and AutoCAD Electrical
- Perform risk assessments on bid selection, hardware procurement, and installation timing
- Supervise engineers, electricians, and millwrights during press upgrade installations
- Provide full line commissioning support (PLC, electrical, and mechanical) before, during, and after installation
Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering / technology, technician degree, or equivalent work experience
- PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi; Yaskawa/Toyopuc a plus)
- Experience with Safety PLC design and HMI design
- AutoCAD Electrical for hardware, panel, and field device layouts
- Electrical hardware design and modification
- Experience with equipment demolition, installation, and commissioning
- Ability to multitask, work well in a team, and communicate effectively
- Preferred: stamping press / automotive manufacturing experience; ability to travel/work in Canada and Mexico; weekends/holidays as necessary
